Nice Little Vise Overall

This vise unlike so many others is just the right size for my tiny Mini-Q Drill press other vices that many buy are 4" and are too big for a very small Drill Press so 3" works out well. The vice workings are actually quite smooth and have very little play, unlike a slightly cheaper vice I own that has loads of play and backlash. This vise has a nice thick steel guide plate sliding on fully milled guides see (Pic 3) that holds the main jaws in place so that they can't lift up under load, this is important and helps keep the jaws in alignment. Lower quality vises use a much thinner plate, and un milled guides ... Another feature that you don't see on every vise and does not seem to be mentioned anywhere that I see is the fact the Lead Screw does ride on a ball bearing, this is a good design choice as it allows a lot of clamping force to be applied with very little effort. Note: the vice I received is a nice blue like the other vises they make not the odd textured green shown in the description pics which I guess is an older version. This is why overall I can say its a nice little vice its also solid and weighs around 5 lbs, so why 4 stars? my reason for 4 stars is based on QC and think it should be much higher, because the vise I was sent has jaw plates where they did not drill the holes correctly spaced to center, so the plates are not dead center to the jaws which I expect in a vice that was designed to be more precise then some $20 dollar model, in that case it should have very tight quality control. You can easily see that the jaw plates are off to one side in the (Pic 2), so why they allowed this to pass I am not sure, as I would not give it a passing grade if I was in QC. However I was not going to send it back for this as it still works fine, but I think I will try to reach out to GROZ to see if they can send me a correctly drilled and centered set of replacement jaws. So do I recommend this vise yes I think most will be happy with how smooth it is and its overall build. I just cant give it 5 stars because of this QC over site, and being a perfectionist I expect perfection in anything I purchase and that seems to be a lot harder to get today then it was 20 years ago where craftsmanship and QC was much higher then now.

Very handy and great product for the price. Not too small, not too big, just right for small home projects.
